Dear Golfing Friend,

Well we've made it through our first six months of business.  With a beat-up laptop that doesnt shutdown, a worn-out looking cell phone and "a little help from our friends", it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride and despite the fact we sometimes have absolutely no idea of what we're doing, we're enjoying every minute of it and hope to bring you new and improved Thailand golf services as we continue to grow, sometimes out of control!

This month it's also my birthday, and if you're thinking of sending me a pair of sperm-reducing (tight) underwear, Golf "Oversize Head" Condoms or something else I might struggle to find a use for, thanks for the thought, but please save your money and just visit my website www.golfthink.com and tell me how I can make it better as more people start to visit the site...

Enjoy your golf and remember Golfthink "Because Great Golf Starts With the Mind"!

Despite getting lost everytime I go play at Bangsai Country Club, it's always a pleasure to tee it up on Bangkok's best value for money course. It has a reputation for being a long way from Bangkok, but in fact, if you go the right way, it shouldn't take longer than an hour.  The conditions are sometimes a little suspect, but there are some great golf holes, our favourites being the driveable 301 yard (back tees) Par 4 2nd, and the 557 yard difficult Par 5 14th. Designed by Pirapon Namatra, who also designed Koh Samui's first golf course, Bangsai's rolling fairways and deceiving greens make this course a real treat to play.  It's challenging, yet very playable for all levels of golfers providing several options from tee to green and offering several risk-reward holes sure to please the ego-golfer.  It's become very, very popular for corporate golf outings, groups and societies so make sure you check availability before playing.  Telephone 035 371 491 or 01 643 9121 or contact Golfthink if you require transfers or a playing lesson there.

- If you're playing any course on the Bangna-Trad Highway to Chonburi, be prepared for some heavy, heavy traffic jams on the way out.  Road works (what they're doing I have no idea) have caused severe back-ups on the approx. 5 km stretch of road to the elevated tollway and recently it seems trucks and pick-ups have been having competitions amongst themselves to see who can get themselves into the most confusing accident scenario.  (They know people are going to have a good (read: stop the car and take pictures) stare, so probably figure they should make it interesting)  Maybe quicker to take Rama IX out to the Outer Ring road and cut back...

- Lam Luk Ka Country Club and Muang Kaew Golf Course have joined Bangkok's elite courses in going to the once-unthinkable four players per group policy on weekends and public holidays.  Nice to know the courses are slowly realizing fivesomes + seven minute tee time intervals is not a winning formula...

- Kiarti Thanee Country Club has recently opened the Asian Tennis Academy.  The club is transforming itself into one of Bangkok's only true sports clubs and look out for Kiarti Thanee to be at the forefront of Thailand golf developments in the future.

- There's a new Thailand Golf Guide out on the shelves.  At the risk of getting taken off a few peoples xmas card lists, it's a bit disappointing with some spelling errors, factually incorrect information and the usual amateurish photographs...to it's credit, the course descriptions go a little beyond the "laid out on a flat terrain with the good arrangement of water hazards" used by a certain other golf guide...

Donald Trump, who sports a 4 handicap, has created some of the most expensive golf courses in the US catering to America's rich and famous:

- In case he gets bored of his USD$5 billion New York City development to be known as Trump Place, Trump has recently purchased the largest parcel of land in California to build Trump National Golf Club California which fronts almost 2 miles of the Pacific Ocean.

- This is in addition to Trump National Golf Club in New York and Trump International Golf Club in Florida, where memberships go for USD$300,000 and USD$350,000 respectively.  Free tees are included for the members as an apology for his lack of creativity in naming the courses

- In Building Trump International, Jim Fazio moved 3 million cubic yards of earth, dug lakes 55 feet deep, and piled dirt 58 feet to create mountains from an old rubbish dump.

- The development cost USD$40 million including USD$15 million on the clubhouse.  (The average cost to build a course in the US is around USD$5 million)

And for when there's an awkward silence...

It takes a few minutes to download if you're on dial-up, but it's well worth the read.

- Earlier this year, Joe Gibbs, owner of Chaoclay Downs Golf Course in Marquette, Michigan, unveiled a 1,007-yard double-dogleg par 6 hole to displace the Satsuki golf course in Sano, Japan (which boasts a 964-yard, par-7 hole) from The Guinness Book of World Records.
