Sawasdee Golfing Friend,

I missed you! I've had to arise from my death bed to write this, the first newsletter of 2005. New for this year...ummm....not so desperate attempts to be funny to make up for our lack of height, controlled ecstasy over our mobile phone golf thingy, and something else that we haven't been able to think of yet due to our current bird flu like condition.

Totally being one to show off and tell everyone about my accomplishments in order to hide my true feelings of insecureness I have to tell you that I recently had two hole in ones and an eagle from the fairway. I was thinking about giving up teaching and heading for the PGA Tour...until I topped my 3 wood 30 yards in front of one of my students...although I did save face by chipping in for Par...

Mobile Golf - Golf Anywhere You Are

Swing freaks will enjoy our latest addition to the Golfthink WAP site - Swing Sequences of the games best players. Log on to wap.golfthink.com and click on GOLF TIPS, then SWING SEQUENCES. The file sizes are quite large, so may take a while (up to 10 seconds) to show on your phone, and if they don't show up at all, select OPTIONS and then "VIEW IMAGES", which will open the file. This is an excellent way to compare yourself to the Pro's while on the range or even on the golf course.

The Lesson Tee - A Lesson About Lessons

If you're thinking about taking a golf lesson to get your game in shape for 2005, be sure to consider the following:

- Like any lessons, if you don't practice outside lesson hours your improvement is going to be somewhat limited

- There is no "secret" or magic formula that any golf professional can give you. Getting better requires a serious committment in your time

- If you've been playing with a 50 yard slice for 20 years, it might take you a little longer than a one hour golf lesson to fix it

- You will probably get worse before you get better. If you want to feel comfortable, don't bother getting off the couch

- If you think you know more than the instructor, hit a lob shot over a two storey house while standing less than 6 feet from it.

Golf Holidays - Oh No, Not Another One...

Yep, there's a new golf guide out and it's a poetic symphony, at least the reviews written by yours truly. What's good about this book is it lists all courses in Thailand and for once, I didn't feel like such a "know it all" on golf courses in Thailand after reading through it. There are some courses with green fees less than 100 baht and most of the descriptions are accurate, if sometimes a little brief. This would be a good buy if you're looking to play off the beaten track, otherwise just hold your horses and wait for our Mobile Golf Directory...

Equipment Advisor - From The Guys That Sleep With Their Putter

Each month we're going to giving you some advice and insights on golf equipment, which will help you shoot lower scores and become a more complete golfthinker. This month: Can the type of golf ball I use really make a difference? Good question mate, and the answer is yes and no. If, on that occasion when the planets align themselves and you hit one off the center off the clubface, from the right angle of attack, a good golf ball will fly further and produce better results than your used golf balls that you bought outside the golf course. In general, the difference in golf balls these days is a lot smaller than the differences in our ability to hit consistently good shots. I encourage most of my students to buy expensive golf balls because buying crap ones is admitting to yourself you're going to lose them all.
