Dear Fellow Golfthinker

The first month of golfthink has been pretty exciting for me.  I hope I don't sound like I just won an Academy Award, but I'd like to say thanks to you and everybody who has given me great support, referrals and encouragement during my first month of operation.

One of the reasons we keep playing this sometimes maddening and always fustrating game, is that it's not always about what score you shoot or how many birdies you make.  The most enjoyable rounds are the ones where friendships are made, a laugh or two is shared and where your foursome is the last to leave the clubhouse.

I hope golf brings you as many good friends as it has me.

Great golfing!

golfthink is pleased to announce Kiarti Thanee Country Club as the home of golfthink Golf Instruction.  With a three-tiered grass driving range, two practice putting greens and one of Bangkok's best chipping and pitching greens, the practice facilities make Kiarti Thanee the ultimate learning environment.  The golf course has recently undergone a major renovation and upgrading program and the course conditions are first class.  Book any of our "on-demand" programs at Kiarti Thanee Country Club during February and receive Tiger Wood's book "How I play Golf".  Visit www.golfthink.com/courses.htm for more info.

golfthink in the News
Look out for my articles in OB Golf & Lifestyle Magazine in Indonesia and Golf Asia Magazine in Singapore.  They'll be covering a variety of different topics including golf tips, course reviews, interviews and anything else you can golfthink of.  If you'd like a copy or would like to subscribe to either of these two publications, please send us an E-mail and we'll give you all the details.

You Go Girl!
Ladies, if you're sick of being left behind while your other half spends the day with his buddies on the golf course, it's time to start learning so you can join em and find out what on earth he's on about when he tells his friends he "hit it stiff on 8" and "rolled in a snake on 12".  Not sure if its for you?  No problem, I'll give you your first lesson free, and if you don't like it there's no pressure to continue.  Just send us an E-Mail to find out more.

Increase your Golf IQ - Courtesy Dean Knuth

People are often confused by the golf handicap system, thinking it's based on your average scores, when it fact it's more an indicator of your best scores.

- The odds are 1 in 200 that you'll beat your handicap by three  strokes.

- Beat it by five strokes, it's 1 in 570.

- The odds for going 10 under are 1 in 82,000.

Bill gates once shot 87 playing off a 30 handicap in a  tournament - that's about a 1 in a million shot.  Not satisfied with his 18 Billion, he took home a box of balls, a big-screen TV, a set of garage doors and what he needs most - some computer software!

Tiger Woods handicap in  2000 was + 9.7.  That's like birdieing every second hole.

Golf in Thailand - Tip of the Month
"Jai Yen Yen" - Take it Easy!  Many of the courses in Thailand allow five-somes and some six-somes during weekdays.  This means it's not unusual to see a large group of 10-20 golfers and caddies walking down one fairway.  Apart from making a good photo to take back home, it can be quite a test of your patience if you're stuck behind such a group.  It's a bit of a lottery if they'll let you through and many of those larger groups are playing for a lot (lot) more than a $1 Nassau so aren't in any mood to let anybody through.  If they do let you through, no need to rush, take your time and just stay in your routine.  If they don't let you through, don't let it get to you.  Don't let what you can't control upset you .  Use the time you spend waiting to chat with your playing partners, practice chipping, or share a joke with your caddie.  If you get upset and start playing badly, there's only one person to blame, and it's not anybody in the group in front.
